Yeehawesome!
Yeehawesome! is a happy-brain roundup in each issue of Beany Brain. What’s happening that’s good in brain land? What’s bringing me joy?
Beany Brain is yeehawesome. You know it. Happy 100! Have a cuppa with me. Kanpai!
Three Peas is a charity that helps refugees who have reached Europe, and their main patron is Axel Scheffler, a children’s book illustrator whom we have loved for years. Good job, Axel and Three Peas! Axel says:
When conflicts dominate headlines, how can we make a difference in our own communities? Gather and act! When the world feels overwhelming the instinct is often to disengage—but that is precisely the moment to hold most tightly to our shared humanity and reclaim a space for empathy and care. We are more powerful than we believe. Whatever the cause close to your heart, take action. It can be minimal—a donation, a conversation, a little time—but your presence, words and actions strengthen the whole fabric of solidarity. Acting on your principles is also, simply, invigorating. We can change the world from the bottom up. By acting together we become irrefutable proof that a different world is possible.
(as quoted in The Big Issue, April, 2026)
Getting Katharine Hayhoe’s email newsletter every week makes me happier! She’s a Christian and a Canadian atmospheric scientist. Katharine is a yeehawesome person and scientist.
Quote of the Week
It is all a question of sensitiveness. Brute force and overbearing may make a terrific effect. But in the end, that which lives lives by delicate sensitiveness. If it were a question of brute force, not a single human baby would survive a fortnight. It is the grass of the field, most frail of all things, that supports all life all the time. But for the green grass, no empire would rise, no man would eat bread: for grain is grass; and Hercules or Napoleon or Henry Ford would alike be denied existence.

Beany Brownie Points and Extra Bonus Funniness

Wonderful Wednesday
Wonderful Wednesday was a day once a year in college when they would suddenly and surprisingly call off all classes and we’d play all day. The cafeteria provided special fun food and we’d do stuff outside like slip ‘n slides and jello wrestling in sumo suits. This segment of Beany Brain is dedicated to that memory of silliness and fun—no words, just a photo from the week that I’ve taken or found that reminds me to let the joy in. Since Beany Brain is published on Wednesday every week (at least, Wednesday in Japan), I hope you enjoy this Wonderful Wednesday.
